Men’s Ice Hockey: Hawks Drop Second Tilt in UNE Weekend Series

BIDDEFORD, Maine – The Roger Williams University (RWU) Men's Ice Hockey team fell to the #7 University of New England (UNE), 7-1, at the Harold Alfond Forum on Saturday afternoon in Conference of New England (CNE) action.

The Hawks were outshot by the Nor'easters, 49-16, while also blocking 11 attempts to the Nor'easters six. In goal, Niko Charles (Sunnyvale, Calif.) had 42 total saves in the game, while Harrison Chesney and Stefan Carney had a total of 15 combined in the match.

The Nor'easters picked up an early goal 11 seconds into the match with Drew Olivieri, potting the first goal off helpers from Chip Hamlett and Kevin O'Keefe. The Nor'easters added another goal just under five minutes later, with a goal coming at 4:57 with Jayden Price tallying the second.

The Nor'easters tallied two more goals in the first with Ryan Hadland, and Juraj Elias each botting one in the final five minutes of the period, taking a 4-0 lead into the second. The Nor'easters added two more with Price and Oliveri each scoring their second of the contest, ahead of RWU's JJ Alger (Brewster, Mass.) earning a goal with 11:59 with an assist from captain Gabe Reis (Tenafly, N.J.).

In the third ther Nor'easters tallied one more goal with Aidan Curran closing out a 7-1 victory.

Roger Williams (6-14-1, 4-11-1 CNE) will now turn their attention to Johnson & Wales, beginning at Driscoll Arena on Friday, Feb. 13 at 5:00 pm for a key CNE weekend against the Wildcats.
