BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Men's Tennis team swept Suffolk 7-0 in Conference of New England play on Tuesday in Bristol.
RWU opened the match by sweeping all three doubles contests to take an early 1-0 lead. The team of Camden Poitras (Londonderry, N.H.) and Will Hurlbut (Marion, Mass.) defeated Abhi Patel and Ishmam Amin 6-0 finishing first at the No. 2 spot. Bronson DeSisto (Las Vegas, Nev.) and Ryan Carroll (Holden, Mass.) earned a 6-0 win over Jason Yany and Franco Amadio at No. 1 doubles. In No. 3 doubles, Iker Rodriguez Alcocer (Nualcalpan de Juarez, Mexico) and Steven Mathew (Bayport, N.Y.) combined to blank Anders Ovren and Joshua Clamens, 6-0.
Moving to singles play, Hurlbut took down Clamens 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 6 singles spot. In the No. 2 spot, Carroll defeated Amin 6-0, 6-0 before Rodriguez Alcocer clinched the match for the Hawks with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Amadio in the No. 4 singles spot.
To round out the match, Poitras defeated Yany at No. 2 singles with a 6-0, 6-1 win. In the No. 5 spot, Om Seth (Lincoln, R.I.) defeated Ovren 6-0, 6-0, before DeSisto defeated Patel 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles.
Roger Williams (7-4, 2-0 CNE) will be back on the court on Saturday, Mar. 21 to host Nichols at 12:00pm. Suffolk (0-1, 0-1 CNE) will look to bounce back on Saturday, Mar. 21 when they travel to Saint Joseph (Conn.) for a 12:00pm start.
