MIDDLETOWN, CT — The Roger Williams University Women's Track & Field team delivered a well-rounded performance across both track and field events at the J. Elmer Swanson Spring Classic, highlighted by a standout showing from
Angela West (Riverview, Fla.) in the javelin.
West recorded a throw of 40.17 meters to lead the Hawks and post one of the top marks of the meet.
Emma Jackson (Naugatuck, Conn.) had a strong all-around day in the field events, placing in the shot put (8.91m), discus (25.46m), and hammer throw (29.09m), while West (25.23m) and
Morgan Ippolito (Point Pleasant, N.J.) (24.15m) added depth in the discus.
On the track,
Kaylee Jackson (Naugatuck, Conn.) led the sprint group with a personal-best 13.54 in the 100 meters, while also recording a PR in the 200 meters (28.11).
Karsyn Medeiros (Bristol, R.I.) and
Megan Wiener (Carmel, N.Y.) also posted personal-best times in the 200, highlighting a strong day for the Hawks' sprinters.
Olivia O'Neill (Westwood, Mass.) paced the 400 meters (1:06.07) and added a 28.69 performance in the 200.
In distance events,
Grace Baldwin (Braintree, Mass.) (5:34.15) and
Katlynn Joseph (Cumberland, R.I.) (5:49.18) led RWU in the 1500 meters, while
Gabriella Sitzer (Slingerlands, New York) clocked 11:48.00 in the 3000.
Lindsay Maine (Richmond, R.I.) rounded out the distance efforts in the 800 meters (3:02.66).
Roger Williams will look to build on the strong performances and continued progression as the outdoor season continues March 28 at the Corsair Classic in North Dartmouth, MA.
