ORLANDO, Fla. — The Roger Williams University Men's Tennis team fell to Otterbein University, 7–0, on Monday morning at Lake Cane.
Otterbein took the early advantage by claiming two of the three doubles matches to earn the opening point. The Cardinals secured a 6–0 victory at No. 1 doubles and added a 6–4 win at the No. 3 position, while the Hawks' pairing of
Nathan Belmore (Lakeville, Mass.) and
Cooper Brown (Plano, Texas) earned a 6–4 victory at No. 2 doubles.
In singles play, Otterbein continued its momentum, winning all six matches in straight sets to secure the team victory. The Cardinals picked up wins across the lineup, including victories at the top two positions over
Iker Rodriguez Alcocer (Nuacalpan de Juarez, Mexico) and
Steven Mathew (Bayport, N.Y.).
Roger Williams received singles appearances from Belmore, Brown,
James Birbara (West Hartford, Conn.), and
Isaac Swain (Waldoboro, Maine), but Otterbein controlled the match to complete the sweep.
With the result, Roger Williams moves to 4–3 overall on the season while Otterbein improves to 1–4.
