NEW LONDON, Conn. – The losing skid reached seven Saturday afternoon for the Roger Williams University Women's Basketball team with a 66-72 loss to Connecticut College.
In the game, the Hawks shot the ball better than they had in the past four games, shooting .431 from the field. All ten players that saw action in the game scored at least two points. The Achilles ' heel for RWU would be turnovers, as Connecticut College scored 28 points off of 26 Hawk giveaways.
Those points would be crucial in such a close game. Neither team led by more than seven points during the first half, with the Camels holding a slim 39-37 advantage going into halftime.
Jackie Criss (Westwood, Mass.) tied the game at 39 on RWU's first possession, but RWU was unable to gain the lead in the period. From that point, the closest the Hawks would get would be one when Jackie Mezzetta (Port Washington, N.Y.) knocked in a jumper to make it 51-50 with 12:46 to play. The Camels lead would hover between two and six over the remainder of the game.
Casey Anderson (Cohasset, Mass.) recorded a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Criss and Jennifer Youngquist (Sandwich, Mass.) each scored in double figures with 11 and 10, respectively.
For the Camels, Jacqueline Shinall led with 18 points, while Emily Cummings and Amy Towne scored 14 points each.
Roger Williams (2-8) will head up to Rhode Island College Thursday for a 6:00 p.m. game.
