Volleyball’s “Dig Pink” Complete Success

Box Score

BRISTOL, R.I. – Last Saturday the Roger Williams University Women's Volleyball team held its first annual “Dig Pink Event” in an effort to raise money and spread awareness about breast cancer.  The Hawks honored two-time breast cancer survivor and RWU Dining Staff member Judy Montalvo, and had a moment of silence to honor those that have lost their courageous battle.

In the match the Hawks were unable to overtake the strong team from Colby-Sawyer which went five games before the Chargers got the win.  However, the team was able to raise $700 which will all be given to the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation in Providence, R.I.

Proceeds were raised from donations, the sale of t-shirts, as well as donations of one dollar from students which gave them the opportunity to serve for a prize.  Many of the fans in attendance dressed in pink, and both teams wore shades of pink jerseys to show their support.  All in all the event was a success in raising funds to find a cure for the deadly disease and spreading awareness about breast cancer.
