BRISTOL, R.I.- RWU raced out to a 7-0 lead and led 9-2 at halftime in a win over Centenary College of New Jersey Tuesday night at the Disney Wide World of Sports in Kissimmee, Fla. The final score was 16-4.
Senior Dave Hurley (Hanover, Mass.) led the Hawks with three goals and three assists. Sophomore Drew Smith (Blue Point, N.Y.) matched Hurley with three goals. Senior Packy Markham (Cutchogue, N.Y.) and freshman Justin Leddy (Manasquan, N.J.) each chipped in with two goals and an assist. Leddy's goals were the first of his RWU career.
Seniors Beaver Barone (Weymouth, Mass.) and Sean Benner (Narberth, Pa.) each tallied a goal and assist with each collecting three ground balls as well. Other goal scorers included senior midfielders Joe Paratore (Deer Park, N.Y.) and Domenic Celeste (Jupiter, Fla.) along with junior midfielder Aaron Hewlings (Oneonta, N.Y.) and junior attackman Ryan Christensen (Granby, Conn.). Senior Joe Healy (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.), junior Rian Kearney (Duxbury, Mass.) and freshman Shawn Cleary (Homer, N.Y.) each had an assist. Kearney also collected three ground balls from his long-stick midfielder position.
Goalie duties were split between senior Matt Levy (St. Louis, Mo.) and sophomore Tom Hardon (Devon, Pa.). Levy registered eight saves in the first half with Hardon collecting seven saves in the second half. Senior defensemen Mike Horan (Acton, Mass.) had three ground balls on the night, as did junior defensemen Glenn Pacitti (Mastic, N.Y.) and Phil Powers (Summit, N.J.). Senior defenseman Chris Mecozzi (Wilton, Conn.) had two ground balls in the win as well.
The Hawks return to action on Saturday, March 21st at 11 a.m. when they take on Hamilton College at Sylvan Lake Park in Sanford, Fla.
