BEVERLY, Mass. – The Conference of New England (CNE) announced its postseason awards for Men's Lacrosse on Thursday afternoon, with Roger Williams highlighted by Kyle Zirn (Derry, N.H.) earning Defensive Player of the Year honors, along with three All-Conference selections.
Zirn headlined the Hawks' postseason recognition, earning CNE Defensive Player of the Year honors while also being named to the All-Conference First Team. The all-time leader in caused turnovers, Zirn played a pivotal role in anchoring the Hawks' back line throughout the season, picking up 51 caused turnovers and 83 ground balls.
Zirn ends his college career holding the Hawks' career caused turnovers record at Roger Williams with 195, having broken the record in his junior season. He is second in career ground balls with 283 in his four years.
Roger Williams also saw Eric Izzo (Northford, Conn.) earn All-Conference Second Team recognition for his performance this season. Izzo was the top long-stick midfielder for the Hawks, logging up 45 groundballs and caused 23 turnovers during the regular season season while scoring two goals and dishing out three assists.
Aaron D'Aversa (Sea Cliff, N.Y.) was named to the All-Conference Third Team, adding to the Hawks' strong showing in the postseason awards. D'Aversa logged 121 saves in the net this season for a .547 save percentage.
D'Aversa finishes his college career with 524 saves, reaching his 500th save against JWU on April 22 this season.
Rounding out the honors for the Hawks, sophomore Jacob Parenteau (Millville, Mass.) was selected to the CNE Community Service Team, recognizing his efforts both on the field and in the community.
Roger Williams concluded their season in the semifinal of the CNE Tournament at Endicott on Wednesday night, dropping the game 14-7. They went 8-9 overall and 6-3 in conference play this regular season.
