BEVERLY, MASS.- Despite registering more shots and fewer turnovers, the RWU men's lacrosse team fell, 8-3, to No. 5 Endicott, Saturday, in Beverly, Mass.
The Gulls controlled the face-off circle throughout the first half, winning all seven face-offs, giving them control early. Nick Cosco (Londonderry, N.H.) tallied an unassisted goal just 1:11 into the contest, followed by Eddie O'Reilly (Beverly, Mass.) 57 seconds later for a quick 2-0 lead for the hosts.
Endicott continued its offensive pressure, scoring the game's next two goals before RWU senior Dave Hurley (Hanover, Mass.) took an assist from sophomore Drew Smith (Blue Point, N.Y.) with 1:50 remaining in the second quarter, sending the teams into halftime with the score 4-1.
The Hawks outscored Endicott 2-1 in the third frame, with Smith helping Hurley again and freshman Justin Leddy (Manasquan, N.J.) taking an assist from junior Domenic Celeste (Jupiter, Fla.) for a 5-3 score heading into the final 15 minutes.
Another strong period for Endicott goalkeeper Eric Hagarty (Sudbury, Mass.) held RWU scoreless, as he tallied four of his 13 saves in the fourth quarter. Hawks sophomore goalkeeper Tyler Roebuck (Montgomery, N.Y.) finished with six in 60 minutes.
With the win, Endicott moves to 8-1 overall and 3-0 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference, while RWU falls to 5-2 and 1-1 in the TCCC.
RWU's next contest is at No. 10 Western New England College, Wednesday, at 5 p.m. Endicott also faces WNEC next, Saturday at 4 p.m.
