SPRINGFIELD, Mass.RWU sophomore goalie Tyler Roebuck (Montgomery, NY) posted 13 saves in the men's lacrosse contest, Wednesday, but despite the strong performance, Western New England College, ranked 10th nationally, posted the 8-2 win in Springfield, Mass.


Sophomore Colin Houlihan (Yorktown Heights, NY) had two goals and an assist, and freshman goalie Brewster Knowlton (Somers, CT) made 10 saves as the Golden Bears raised their record to 5-1 with their fifth consecutive win and are now 2-0 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference.

 

Junior Tim Santye (Skillman, NJ) and freshman Nick Jez (Somers, CT) each contributed a pair of goals while seniors Chuck Cartelli (Yorktown Heights, NY) and Scott Kukis (Sudbury, MA) had the other scores.

 

Western New England College led 3-0 after the opening period and held a 5-0 advantage at halftime.

 

Santye gave the hosts a 6-0 cushion with a man-up goal at the 5:02 mark of the third period.

 

Roger Williams got on the board 20 seconds later when freshman Justin Leddy (Manasquan, NJ) hit the back of the net.

 

The Hawks tallied the final score on a man-up goal by sophomore Drew Smith (Blue Point, NY) with 4:57 left in the game.

 

Roger Williams now has a 5-3 record, including a 1-2 mark in the conference. The Hawks return to action Saturday in their home-opener against Wentworth Institute of Technology with game time set at 2:30 p.m.
