WENHAM, Mass. -- Roger Williams won two games in shutout fashion over Gordon College, taking game one 5-0, and game two, 2-0.
Freshman Jaclyn Doolin pitched both shutouts for the visiting Hawks, defeating senior Leah Granat Long Valley, N.J.) in the opener and junior Sarah Grimes (Terryville, Conn.) in the nightcap.
Freshman Hannah Pirez (Bolton, Mass.) and junior Kerry Burke (Old Saybrook, Conn.) both had three hits in the opener, while Gordon's offense was led by junior Jenna Levchuck (West Islip, N.Y.) who had two base hits.
Game two was a tighly contested pitching duel as both pitchers held their opponents scoreless until the 5th when Roger Williams broke through. Sophomre Sarah Grill (Watervliet, N.Y.) had a sac fly to break the deadlock and junior Michelle Caprice (Oak Ridge, N.J.) added an RBI single for the game's only scoring.
Grimes threw a three-hit complete game in the hard luck loss, picking up five strikeouts. Doolin was particularly impressive in game two, racking up eight strikeouts and giving up just a single hit.
Gordon will be back in action on Saturday when they host Anna Maria at 12pm. Roger Williams (26-14, 16-6, TCCC) will travel to face the University of New England at 12pm.
