BRISTOL, R.I.- The RWU Men's Lacrosse team cruised to a 20-4 victory over visiting Wentworth Institute of Technology Tuesday in the Quarterfinal game of The Commonwealth Coast Conference Playoffs.
The RWU defense held the Leopards to just one goal throughout the entire first half, while the Hawks totaled 14 in the first 30 minutes. The Hawks held the 34-11 shot advantage and also picked up 37 ground balls, compared to Wentworth's 14 in the first half.
Turenne scored the game's first goal at 11:22 and junior Domenic Celeste (Jupiter, Fas.) scored one minute later before Wentworth's Matt Cox put the Leopards on the board at 6:07.
Turenne assisted on the first of Packy Markham's (Cutchogue, N.Y.) three goals to begin the Hawks' 12-goal scoring streak. By the end of the game, 11 different Hawks scored a goal and 16 different Hawks notched at least one point.
Cox led Wentworth with two points on a goal and an assist. Two goalkeepers spent time in net for the Leopards, including Sean Tobin and Kevin Griffin, who recorded nine and eight saves, respectively.
Hawks starting goalkeeper Tyler Roebuck (Montgomery, N.Y.) made four saves in the first half. Senior Matt Levy (St. Louis, Mo.) allowed two goals and made two saves in 18:10 of play, while sophomore Tom Hardon (Devon, Pa.) allowed one goal in 10:21 of play.
RWU continues its postseason play, traveling to Beverly, Mass., Thursday, to face second-seeded and 16th-ranked Endicott College in a 4 p.m. TCCC Semifinal contest.
Endicott edged RWU in the regular season, 8-3, on March 28th in Beverly, Mass. Thursday's semifinals will be webcasted live online on the Endicott athletics website, www.ecgulls.com.
