HENNIKER, N.H. – Roger Williams University's Laurin Pendleton (Southwick, Mass.) netted two goals and assist the third leading the Hawks past the New England College Pilgrims 3-1 in women's soccer action Saturday afternoon.
With the win the Hawks improve to 7-3-0 overall and remain undefeated in TCCC play improving to 6-0-0. The loss drops the Pilgrims to 4-7-1 overall and 2-3-1 in conference play.
Roger Williams would open the scoring just 12 minutes into the game as Pendleton would head in a free kick from Alexa Maher (Hopewell, N.J.) recording her team-high seventh goal of the season.
Pendleton would strike again in the 41st minute of play as she would break free from the Pilgrim defense and beat NEC keeper on a one-on-one to put the Hawks up 2-0.
The two teams would battle though much of the second half scoreless before NEC's Alyssa Wilkie (Saugus, Mass.) would break away on a nice pass from Amy Ordile (Winchendon, Mass.) and record her fifth goal of the season.
The Pilgrims would have several chances to tie the game late as Wilkie and Veronica Hytner (St. James, N.Y.) would each strike shots just wide of the net. The Hawks would add an insurance goal in the 88th minute as Devon Leighton (Scarborough, Maine) would put in a thrown in from Pendleton.
The Hawks finished the afternoon out shooting the Pilgrims 22-8.
Picking up the win in goal for Roger Williams was Kelsey McGee (Kings Park, N.Y.) who finished with four saves. In goal for NEC was Erin Palma (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) who stopped six shots on the afternoon.
New England College returns to action on Thursday, October 7 when they host non-conference opponent Daniel Webster College. Roger Williams will take the field Wednesday, October 6 when they travel to take on conference foe Nichols College.
