BRISTOL, R.I. – The University of New England took a doubleheader Saturday afternoon against the Roger Williams University Softball team, winning by the scores 10-2 and 11-6.

The Nor'Easters opened up the first game with a three-spot in the first inning with Lauren Webb (Jericho, Vt.) stealing home and getting RBI hits by Ashley Gott (Winterport, Maine) and Maria Mantelli (Thompson, Conn.). UNE would added two more runs in the second and one more in the fourth to take a commanding 6-0 lead.

The Hawks put their only runs of the day on the board in the bottom of the fourth, went Melissa Sereti (Shrewsbury, Mass.) blooped a short two-out single just inside the right foul line, bringing in Hannah Pirez (Bolton, Mass.) and Erica Castro (Medford, N.Y.). Roger Williams remained within four until the Nor'Easters doubled their lead in their final at-bat with four more runs in the inning.

Amber Zablowsky (Rochester, Mass.) picked up the win, allowing two runs in seven innings, giving up seven hits and a walk while striking out one. Teammates Julie Monteiro (Portsmouth, R.I.) and Maegen Johnson (Standish, Maine) each finished with two hits and two runs scored.

Jaclyn Doolin (Miller Place, N.Y.) took her first loss of the season, allowing all ten runs (nine earned) in the game. Sereti finished with a hit and two RBI, with Pirez and Castro adding a run scored each.

In the second game, the Nor'Easters jumped out to another early lead, scoring two in the top of the first and another in the third. UNE then greatly extended its lead in the fifth, putting four runs on the board to take a 7-0 lead.

Trailing 9-1 in the bottom of the fifth and facing a mercy-rule loss, the Hawks caught a break in their final at-bat with two outs as a miscue in the outfield brought in Castro, Michelle Caprice (Oak Ridge, N.J.), and Sarah Grill (Watervliet, N.Y.) to pull the Hawks within five. In the bottom of the sixth, Caprice knocked a two-run single to cut the gap to only three. Yet the Nor'Easters got both of those runs back in the seventh to hold on for the win.

Erin Lyons (Salem, N.H.) earned the victory for UNE, going 4.2 innings while giving up four runs (one earned). Johnson finished 2-for-3 with three runs scored, with Angie Damon (Scarborough, Maine) adding two hits, two RBI, and a run scored.
Kelly Marcin (Windsor Locks, Conn.) gave up six runs (five earned) in 3.1 innings of work in the loss. Grill had three hits in the game, with Caprice adding a hit, two RBI, and a run.

Roger Williams (8-8, 2-2 TCCC) will head to Curry College tomorrow afternoon for a 1:00 p.m. game, while the University of New England (9-3, 4-0 TCCC) hosts Endicott College tomorrow at noon.
