BRISTOL, R.I. – The RWU Men's Lacrosse team earned its fourth-straight victory Tuesday, defeating Anna Maria College, 15-3, in Paxton, Mass. Junior goalkeeper Tyler Roebuck (Montgomery, N.Y.) stopped 11 of the Amcats' 12 shots in the first 45 minutes to help RWU to the win.
RWU junior Drew Smith (Blue Point, N.Y.) scored a team-high five goals in the contest, including the game-opener at 7:52 of the first quarter. Anna Maria freshman Matt Lochner (Lima, N.Y.) evened the score with an unassisted tally at 5:18 before junior Jim Turenne (Bristol, R.I.) put RWU back in front with an unassisted goal at 3:53.
The Hawks controlled the middle two periods, holding the hosts scoreless while scoring five times in the second quarter and adding seven in the third.
The Amcats' Luke Biggins (Sudbury, Mass.) scored back-to-back goals at 10:25 and 3:52 of the fourth quarter before RWU junior Rob Andreozzi (Bristol, R.I.) closed out the game with a goal assisted by freshman Drew Beck (Cross River, N.Y.).
RWU outshot Anna Maria 36-27 and picked up more ground balls, 56-46. The RWU goalkeepers recorded one more save than their counterparts, as Roebuck and junior Tom Hardon (Devon, Pa.) combined for 12 saves. Meanwhile Anna Maria freshman Andrew Ellis (Fitchburg, Mass.) notched seven saves and classmate Bryan Bedard (Dracut, Mass.) tallied four in 45 minutes and 15 minutes, respectively.
RWU sophomore Justin Leddy (Sea Girt, N.J.) tied Smith for a game-high five points, recording two goals and three assists on the day. RWU freshman Ian Powers (Shrewsbury, Mass.) and Beck both finished with four points, as Powers notched three goals and one assist and Beck notched two goals and two assists.
The win improves the Hawks' record to 5-6 overall and 4-3 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference. The Amcats fall to 4-9 overall and 0-7 in the TCCC. RWU has little time to rest travelling Wednesday to Umass-Dartmouth for a non-conference tilt beginning at 7 p.m. Anna Maria next travels to Gordon College Saturday for a 2:30 contest.
