Men’s Lacrosse defeats Gordon, earns #4 seed for TCCC Tourney

WENHAM, Mass. - The Gordon men's lacrosse 9-game winning streak came to a halt on Saturday night, as the Roger Williams Hawks registered a convincing 12-4 win.  It was the 8th straight win for Roger Williams, who now stands at 9-6 overall and 7-3 in TCCC play. 

 

Gordon drops to 10-4 overall and 8-2 in league play.  Gordon will receive the #3 seed in The Commonwealth Coast Conference playoffs and will host #6 New England College on May 1st.  Roger Williams receives the #4 seed and will host #5 Salve Regina on May 1st.

 

The visitors shot out to an early 2-0 lead on goals by Drew Smith (Blue Point, N.Y.) and Logan Roebuck (Montgomery, N.Y.) in the first 3:11 of the game.  Zac Blue cut the Hawks lead to 2-1 with Gordon's first goal, but Roger Williams quickly answered back with a goal by Justin Leddy (Sea Girt, N.J.), and Roebuck's 2nd tally, to take a 4-1 lead after 1 period.

 

Roger Williams maintained the pressure in the 2nd period, scoring 3 more times to take a commanding 7-2 lead into intermission.  Gordon was never able to seriously threaten in the second half, as the Hawks defense limited Gordon to just 1 goal in each period, and goalkeeper Tyler Roebuck (Montgomery, N.Y.) posted 12 saves.  His counterpart, freshman Houston Zemanski had 15 saves.

 

Roebuck led all scorers with 5 goals, while Drew Smith had 3 and Jim Tancredi (Bloomingburg, N.Y.) had 2.  Drew Beck (Cross River, N.Y.) dished out 4 assists.  For the Fighting Scots, Dan Utz had 2 goals, while Danny Mack and Zac Blue each had 1.
