Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Basketball team earned its fourth win in five games with a 68-50 victory over Western New England College Tuesday evening to improve to 2-0 in The Commonwealth Coast Conference.
Leading the way for RWU was Elizabeth Kilzi with a season-high 18 points, going 11-of-13 from the free throw line. Ryan Weekes (Worcester, Mass.) finished with 16 points and five rebounds, while Kaitlyn Bovee (Berlin, Conn.) notched her second double-double of the season, going for 12 points and ten boards.
Shelby Van Huysen (Killingworth, Conn.) was the high scorer for the Golden Bears with 14 points. Kelly McCormick (Manchester, Conn.) added four points and seven rebounds, while Ali Pessolano (Hampden, Mass.) finished with eight points off the bench.
Elena Radzikowski (Medway, Mass.) started the game off with a layup in the paint for the Golden Bears. Alexandria Lanieri (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) would later knock down a jumper to give RWU its first lead of the game (6-5), but Van Huysen responded with a three to regain the lead for WNEC.
From that point, the Golden Bears would maintain its lead for much of the first half. Despite trailing, the Hawks continued to remain with striking distance, eventually grabbing the lead at the 1:54 mark with Lanieri scoring to break a 25-25 tie. The Hawks held WNEC scoreless over the final 3:40 to go into halftime leading 29-25.
The Hawks started off the second half with a dominating performance to widen its advantage over WNEC. The Hawk defense held the Golden Bears to only four points over the first seven minutes of the period as part of an 18-4 run to take a 47-29 lead with 13:07 to play.
The double-digit deficit proved to be too much for WNEC to overcome as the Golden Bears never came closer than 12 over the remainder of the game.
