Volleyball clinches Little Rhody Championship

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Volleyball team took home the 2011 Little Rhody Championship Sunday afternoon with a pair of 3-1 wins against Rhode Island College and Salve Regina University.

In the opener, Roger Williams defeated the Anchorwomen by the scores 25-17, 22-25, 25-12, 25-21. Salve Regina and the Hawks met in the championship match after the Seahawks beat Johnson and Wales University 3-0 (25-15, 25-18, 25-11).

The championship between the Hawks saw Roger Williams emerge with the 25-20, 22-25, 25-15, 25-17 win, while Rhode Island College took the consolation match 3-0 (25-21, 29-27, 25-21) against Johnson and Wales.

Against Rhode Island College, Krystie Luczynski (Kensington, Conn.) led all players with 17 kills in addition to six digs. Marybeth Torpey (Quincy, Mass.) added 14 kills and eight digs, while Emily Lebowitz (Coventry, Conn.) had a double-double with 47 assists and 13 digs. Kelsee Loche finished with a match-high 24 digs and three service aces.

RIC's Breanna Boyer (West Greenwich, R.I.) led the Anchorwomen with 16 kills and 16 digs. Jessica HO (Providence, R.I.) added 33 assists and 13 digs, while Amanda Cabral (Riverside, R.I.) added 13 digs and eight kills.

In the championship match, Torpey led the Hawks with 18 kills in the match to go along with 16 digs. Lebowitz had solid all-around match with 46 assists, nine digs, and five kills. Luczynski added 14 kills and two block assists. Loche added 26 digs, while Emily Werth (Cheshire, Conn.) contributed 13 digs.

Salve Regina's Julianne Barry (Randolph, Mass.) led the Seahawks with ten kills. Taylor Violet (Tiverton, R.I.) finished 33 assists and 13 digs, while Jennifer Duggan (Merrimack, N.H.) and Jill Diffendaffer (Centennial, Colo.) each added eight kills. Megan Clancy (Chelmsford, Mass.) added 24 digs as well.

Roger Williams (21-3), ranked fifth in New England, travels to Wentworth on Wednesday for a 7:00 p.m. match.
