BRISTOL, R.I. – Roger Williams University Women's Volleyball senior libero Marianna Hernandez (Norwalk, Conn.) has been named the Conference of New England Defensive Player of the Week for the third consecutive week, the conference announced Monday.
Hernandez totaled 60 digs across 12 sets, averaging 5.00 digs per set during the Hawks' three matches. She also contributed 10 assists and a service ace while leading Roger Williams in digs in all three contests.
Hernandez opened the week with a match-high 25 digs and six assists during RWU's five-set match at Johnson & Wales University. She followed with 15 digs, two assists and a service ace in the Hawks' 3-0 conference victory over Curry College, helping Roger Williams limit the Colonels to a .012 hitting percentage.
The senior closed the week with a team-high 20 digs and two assists against Regis College.
During her three-week award streak, Hernandez has collected 163 digs across 31 sets for an average of 5.26 digs per set. She has led the Hawks in digs in each of their eight matches during that span.
Roger Williams returns to action Saturday, Oct. 10, when it hosts the University of Hartford at 1 p.m. at the Paolino Recreation Center.
