Softball falls on second day of Spring Break

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – The Roger Williams University Softball team is still searching for its first win of the season after falling 2-10 to Illinois Wesleyan University and 0-8 to Montclair State University.

Illinois Wesleyan started the game off with three runs in the bottom of the first and one in the second for a quick 4-0 lead. The Hawks were able to cut the deficit in half with a pair of runs in the top of the fourth, yet the Titans rallied off six runs in the bottom of the frame to go on top 10-2. The score would hold up as IWU won the shortened game.

Jaclyn Doolin (Miller Place, N.Y.) allowed all ten runs (seven earned) in three innings pitched before Stacy Broughton (Newtown, Conn.) pitched a scoreless inning of relief. Kelly Marcin (Windsor Locks, Conn.) went 2-for-2 with a run scored, while Laura McConnell (Lexington, Mass.) went 1-for-2 with both of the Hawks' RBIs.

In the second game against Montclair State, the Hawks were no-hit by the Red Hawks, managing a single walk in the contest offensively. Montclair State did nearly all of its damage in the top of the third, scoring seven runs in the inning before adding one more in the fifth to end the game in five.

Broughton allowed two runs (one earned) in 2.2 innings in the loss while Marcin gave up six runs in 2.1 innings. Marcin also drew the lone walk for Roger Williams.

Roger Williams (0-4) will next play Framingham State College and Anderson University.
