Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. – Reigning TCCC Offensive Player of the Week senior Drew Smith (Blue Point, N.Y.) contributed on each of the game's first six goals in Wednesday's Men's Lacrosse contest, helping Roger Williams University to the eventual 16-3 victory over the visiting Curry Colonels.
Smith finished with six goals and two assists along with three ground balls on the day. He was one of nine Hawks to find the back of the net despite the falling snow flurries. Junior Russell Lanham (Silver Spring, Md.) posted a team-high two points for Curry, including one goal and one assist.
After finishing the first quarter ahead 7-0, RWU tallied two more goals to start the second before Colonels sophomore Andrew Navoni (Natick, Mass.) snapped the scoring streak at 12:37. RWU responded with three goals, including back-to-back tallies by sophomore Ian Powers (Shrewsbury, Mass.), finishing the half with a 12-1 advantage.
RWU junior Adam Vorwald (South Setauket, N.Y.) started the second-half scoring at 8:55 before Lanham answered just 45 seconds later. RWU sophomore Drew Beck (Cross River, N.Y.) finished off the third-quarter scoring for the 14-2 Hawks advantage.
Curry sophomore Joseph Natale (Haverhill, Mass.) tallied a goal at 11:39 of the fourth before RWU freshman Kyle Tracy (Bow, N.H.) and junior Dan Klink (Nashua, N.H.) finished off the game's scoring at 2:50 and 2:00, respectively.
Three goalkeepers saw time between the pipes for RWU. Senior Tyler Roebuck (Montgomery, N.Y.) made four saves in the first 36:05, while senior Tom Hardon (Devon, Pa.) and sophomore Colin Bono (Mattapoisett, Mass.) combined for seven saves in the final 23:55. Curry's Michael Hibbard (North Chelmsford, Mass.) registered 14 saves in 55:18 before sophomore Timothy McGonagle (Concord, Mass.) finished out the contest.
With the win RWU improves to 2-3 overall and 2-0 in the TCCC. Curry falls to 3-4 overall and 0-3 in the TCCC.
RWU travels to Wentworth Institute of Technology Saturday for a 7 p.m. tilt, while Curry hosts Gordon College Saturday at 11 a.m.
