Men’s Lacrosse falls to Western New England

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Western New England won its fifth straight game with a 14-7 victory over Roger Williams University Men's Lacrosse team Tuesday evening.

Junior attacker Andrew Mariani (East Brunswick, N.J.) scored four goals and junior midfielder Patrick White (Milton, Mass.) scored three times

Eight players tallied goals for the Golden Bears who improved their record to 10-3 overall while remaining unbeaten in The Commonwealth Coast Conference (TCCC) at 8-0. The Hawks drop to 6-5 and 6-2 in the conference.

Senior midfielder Mike Santare (South Salem, N.Y.) continued his solid play with two goals and an assist. Junior goalie Brewster Knowlton (Somers, Conn.) had another top performance with 13 saves.

Western New England scored four times in the first and second periods to take an 8-3 lead at halftime.

Senior attacker Drew Smith (Blue Point, N.Y.) opened the second half with a goal at 9:13 of the third quarter to get the visitors within four, but White scored just five seconds later with an assist from junior midfielder Joe Martin (Springfield, Mass.) who won the face-off and the Hawks never got any closer.

Martin was an efficient 14-for-19 in that category and also picked-up seven ground balls.

Senior midfielder Jim Turenne (Bristol, R.I.) had a five-point outing for RWU with two goals and three assists. Sophomore attacker Drew Beck (Cross River, N.Y.) chipped-in with a goal and assist.

Senior goalie Tyler Roebuck (Montgomery, N.Y.) finished with 10 saves and five ground balls.

Western New England had a 47-28 advantage in shots and forced 22 turnovers.
