Flanagan scores 1,000th point in Men’s Basketball win

Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. – Roger Williams University Men's Basketball senior Pat Flanagan (Somerville, Mass.) notched his 1,000th career point for the Hawks in a 62-55 win over the University of New England Saturday afternoon.

Flanagan scored the bucket with 4:46 to play in the game, laying in a basket off of a pass from Mike Igoe (Lexington, Mass.) to give the Hawks a 50-49 lead that they would not relinquish. He becomes the 22nd player in RWU Men's Basketball history to score 1,000 points.

Flanagan would finish with a team-high 14 points along with seven rebounds. Igoe added eight points and six rebounds, while Matt Clifford (Norwood, Mass.) chipped in with nine points off the bench. Joseph Henry (Medway, Mass.) contributed eight points and three assists as well.

Marcus Winn (Austin, Texas) led all scorers with 20 points for the Nor'Easters, including six three-pointers. Alex Alsadi (Scottsdale, Ariz.) added 14 points and four steals. Charles Fenner III (Bronx, N.Y.) had ten points off the bench.

The Nor'Easters were in foul trouble for most of the game, allowing the Hawks to get to the foul line 30 times in the game and finishing 24-of-30 from the stripe.

The contest started off as a back-and-forth affair before the Hawks got a jumper from Clifford at the 14-minute mark to give RWU a 13-12 advantage. The Hawks would ultimately hold on to the lead for the rest of the half, leading 31-28 going into the second half.

RWU maintained its lead through most of the half. Mike Engemann (Red Bank, N.J.) gave the Hawks an eight-point advantage with a three with 10:52 to play, their largest of the game up to that point. Yet the Nor'Easters climbed their way back into the game, tying the game at 45 on a layup by Alsadi followed by a fastbreak layup by Fenner III to give UNE a two-point lead. Both teams would trade points before Flanagan's milestone layup put the Hawks on top for good.

Roger Williams (6-4, 2-1 CCC) takes on Curry on Tuesday, while UNE (0-10, 0-3) searches for its first win of the year at Gordon on Tuesday as well.
