Men’s Ice Hockey kicks off year with a win

FALL RIVER, Mass. – On Friday, September 28th, the Roger Williams University Men's Ice Hockey team opened their 2012-13 season with an 8-3 win against the Brown Bears.

The team played exceptionally strong from the drop of the first puck, opening up a 4-0 lead by the end of the first period. The scoring continued into the second period with two more unanswered goals. Brown got on the board with two goals in the second half of the second period but it wasn't enough to hold off the stronger Hawks who finished the game with an 8-3 final advantage.

Junior Zack Boorman led the scoring with two goals and two assists. Sophomores Dillon Zaro and Jared Rizo each added another goal and earned two assists each. The scoring was rounded out with single goals from Phillip Brown, Ryan Cutter, Sean Williamson and Lucas Zuspan.

The Hawks look forward to welcoming the Rhode Island College Anchormen at Driscoll Arena on Saturday, October 13th, at 4:30 pm. The in-state rivalry between RWU and RIC is intense and this contest promises to be an exciting game as RWU defeated RIC for the Colonial Championship at the end of last season in a thrilling 2-1 finish.
