Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Men's Lacrosse used a quick start to defeat University of New England, 10-5, Saturday in a Commonwealth Coast Conference game at Bayside Field. With the win, the Hawks improve their record to 4-4 overall and 2-0 in CCC play. UNE drops to 6-6 overall and 1-3 in the league.
Cameron Signorelli (Albany, N.Y.) led the Hawks with three goals and three assists for a total of six points. Drew Beck (Salem, N.Y.) added two goals while Kirby Sundquist (Concord, Mass.) and Jon Nessa (Concord, Mass.) each collected two points scoring a goal and adding an assist.
The Nor'Easters were led by Nick Gross (Kennebunk, Maine) who scored two goals with the trio of Dan O'Gorman (Putnam Valley, N.Y.), Derek Arnold (W. Bloomfield, Mich.), and Tyler Thomas (Mount Pleasant, N.Y.) each adding a goal.
Beck got the Hawks off to a quick start scoring the first goal eight seconds into the contest off an assist from Nessa. Signorelli got on the board at 10:46 for his first score, followed forty-two seconds later by Kevin Nash (Scituate, Mass). At 8:50 Nessa gave the Hawks a 4-0 lead. Gross was the first to score for the Nor'Easters, hitting the net with 54 seconds left in the first period.
The second period opened with a Signorelli goal at 14:02 off an assist from Patrick Holland (Wilton, Conn.). At 10:19 Tom Brewer (West Hartford, Conn.) scored an unassisted goal which was followed at 9:31 by a goal from Beck assisted by Signorelli.
UNE's Thomas answered with of goal at 7:42 off an assist from Brent Bourgeois (New Haven, Vt.). Sundquist added his first score at 6:55 in the second with UNE's Gross answering with his second score at 5:27.
Todd Carson (Pennington, N.J.) had the only score of the third period on an assist from Signorelli.
O'Gorman added an unassisted goal at 12:12 of the fourth period to bring the score to 9-4. With 4:55 left in the game Signorelli scored unassisted for his third goal of the contest. UNE's Arnold closed out the match with the final score at 1:19.
Nate Porter (Cohasset, Mass.) finished the game with nine saves while RWU Luke Aubrey (Norwalk, Conn.) finished with 11.
O'Gorman gave UNE a slight edge on face-offs but RWU countered by winning the ground ball battle 45-29.
UNE will be at Colby Tuesday at 3:30 p.m., while Roger Williams hosts Salve Regina Wednesday in a league game at 7:00 p.m.
