Men’s Lacrosse snaps streak against Endicott with win on Senior Day

Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Men's Lacrosse team defeated Endicott College for the first time since 2002 with an 11-7 win on Saturday afternoon on the team's Senior Day.

The victory for Roger Williams snaps a 15-game losing streak to Endicott and is the team's first win over the Gulls since a 12-9 Commonwealth Coast Conference Semifinal victory on May 3, 2002. The Hawks move into second place in the conference at 4-1 and 7-5 overall. Endicott drops its first conference game of the year and falls to 4-1 in the CCC as well (7-6 overall)

Roger Williams seniors Dan Klink (Nashua, N.H.), Adam Vorwald (South Setauket, N.Y.), Mitri Najjar (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.), and Collin Schmitt (Longmeadow, Mass.) were honored for their commitment to the Hawk program prior to the game.

Brendan Eppley (Darien, Conn.) put in the first goal of the game for Endicott, seven minutes into the contest. John Ricciardi (Duxbury, Mass.) knotted the game at one for the Hawks, but Sam Ozycz (Cheshire, Conn.) won the ensuing faceoff and went down the field for a goal to put Endicott back up by one.

Kyle Tracy (Bow, N.H.) and Jon Nessa (Concord, Mass.) followed with goals to put RWU on top by one, but Jon Thanas (Cumberland, R.I.) and Chris Janelle (Falmouth, Maine) regained the lead for the Gulls with back-to-back scores. In the final minute of the second quarter, Nessa and Drew Beck (South Salem, N.Y.) tallied scores to put the Hawks back up by one.

In the third quarter, the Hawks scored three straight goals go on top 8-4 with 6:09 left in the period. Thanas and Connor Prescott (Norwalk, Conn.) picked up two more scores for Endicott, but Ricciardi scored in the closing seconds of the period to keep the Hawk lead at three.

A pair of man-up goals for the Hawks in the fourth period by Nessa and Beck helped propel RWU to the win. Endicott scored with 4:26 to play but it would not be enough as RWU held on for the win.

Nessa finished with a season-high eight points on four goals and four assists. Ricciardi notched a hat trick with three goals while Vorwald scored four points on a goal and three assists. Luke Aubrey (Norwalk, Conn.) made 11 saves for the Hawks in the win.

Thanas scored twice in the game for Endicott, while Anthony Martignetti (Winchester, Mass.) and Greg Szkop (New Britain, Conn.) each added a pair of caused turnovers. Conley Cummings (Simsbury, Conn.) took the loss for Endicott, allowing eight goals with five saves. Starting keeper Tom Burke (Sudbury, Mass.) made one save in the game.
