Roger Williams Sweeps Competition at RWU Invitational

Loche and Luczynski Named to All-Tournament Team

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Volleyball team hosted Rivier College, Polytechnic Institute of New York, and the University of New England in a round-robin competition at the RWU Invitational.  The Hawks swept each of their opponents to take the tournament title and improve their overall record to 6-2.  The Nor'Easters of UNE went 2-1 on the day to improve their overall record to 4-1.  Rivier College won their final match against NYU-Poly to finish 1-2 on the day.   NYU-Poly round out the field going 0-3 for the day.

The Hawks' libero Kelsee Loche (Millis, Mass.) and junior outside hitter Krystie Luczynski (Kensington, Conn.) received All Tournament Honors.  The University of New England also placed two players on the all-tournament team setter Maria Kuehl (Middleton, N.H.) and Paige Curran (Chelmsford, Mass.).  Kenna Finlayson (Derry, N.H.) of Rivier College and Corey Loupee (Crown Point, Ind.) of NYU-Poly rounded out the honors.

In the first matches of the day RWU took on Rivier on court 1 while NYU-Poly Played UNE.  The Hawks opened the tournament with 3-0 win (25-13, 25- 17, 25-19).  On court 2 UNE beat NYU poly 3-1 (23-25, 25-18, 25-21, 25-8).

In the second matches of the day the Hawks swept NYU-Poly 3-0 ( 25-15, 25-19, 25-11) and UNE outlasted Rivier in a five game thriller (25-22, 19-25, 25-20, 22-25, 17-15). In the final matches RWU finished the tournament with 3-0 victory of UNE (25-18, 25-23, 25-9) while Rivier beat NYU-Poly 3-1 (25-16, 28-26, 22-25, 25-23).

The Hawks hit .297 on the day with 108 kills behind the play calling of Emily Lebowitz (Coventry, Conn.) and Nicole Weber (Poulsbo, Wash.).  Lucyznski led the Hawks with 30 kills while posting a .383 hitting percentage. Freshman outside hitter Elizabeth Flaherty (Sloatsburg, N.Y.) added 25 kills with a .262 hitting percentage.  Abby Cunningham (Catasauqua, Pa.) and Kelsey Twarog (Barkhamsted, Conn) added 15 and 10 kills respectively to round out the outside hitters.  Andrea Gorman (Wilbraham, Mass.) and Holly Hancock (Tilton, N.H.) paced the middle attackers chipping in 23 kills and combining for a.449 hitting efficiency in the middle position.  Loche led the Hawks defense with 48 dig on the day.  

The Hawks are back in action on Tuesday, September 11th at 7:00 p.m. as they travel to New London, Conn. to take on the Camels of Connecticut College.
