Women’s Soccer bests Nichols

Box Score

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Soccer team rolled off its sixth straight win Saturday afternoon, earning a 3-0 victory over Nichols College in Commonwealth Coast Conference action.

The Hawks celebrated its Pink Day, with the program's Hawks For A Cure group putting together the day's events, including a 50/50 raffle, selling pink pops and wristbands, and soliciting donations for the Roger Williams Cancer Center at Roger Williams Hospital. The team donned pink socks and pink pre-game warmup shirts in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness.

Hannah Noel (Adams, Mass.) served up the first scoring attempt of the day for the Hawks, putting up a shot three minutes into the game that was stopped by Bison keeper Sarah Whitestone (Dalton, Mass.). Less than two minutes later, the Hawks broke through with Noel sending a pass across the box to Mariah Kaiser (Portsmouth, R.I.) for a shot into the left corner, giving RWU a 1-0 lead.

Kaiser nearly added another goal in the 13th minute, sending a long shot from the right corner. Whitestone made a jumping save but couldn't hold on to the ball. The ball nearly trickled into the left corner of the goal but just rolled outside the post to the Bison's fortunte.

Katie Lydon (Riverside, R.I.) was able to give RWU a 2-0 advantage in the 18th minute. Lydon took a pass from Kaiser to the left side of the box, then dribbled around a Bison defender. She was then able to drop a shot into the right side of the net for her team-leading 12th goal of the year.

In the 36th minute, RWU's Haley Carignan (Scarborough, Maine) picked up her second score of the season, chipping a shot into the right corner off of a pass from Lydon. With the goal, it marked the fifth straight contest that RWU had put at least three scores on the board.

Stephanie Jaques (Burlington, Vt.) did not need to record a save in the shutout win, as the Hawk defense held Nichols to only six shots on the day. Whitehouse recorded ten saves in the contest for Nichols.

Roger Williams will take on UMass-Dartmouth in the team's next game, while Nichols travels to MCLA, both games on Wednesday.
