Women’s Soccer claims match over Gordon on Senior Day

Box Score

BRISTOL, R.I. – The #21 Roger Williams University Women's Soccer team sent its senior class off on a high note with a 3-0 victory over Gordon College Saturday afternoon in a Commonwealth Coast Conference contest.

The six seniors, Tory Benoit (Shrewsbury, Mass.), Katie Lydon (Riverside, R.I.), Amy Cripps (Exeter, R.I.), Hannah Noel (Adams, Mass.), Jessica Reade (North Yarmouth, Maine), and Stephanie Jaques (Burlington, Vt.), were all recognized prior to the match for their commitment to the program.

Once the match started, the Hawks took control from the first whistle to the final horn. Over the course of the game, the Hawks outshot Gordon 28-3. The Fighting Scots found difficulty in getting the ball into a formidable scoring position, with the Hawk defense swarming throughout the contest.

Mariah Kaiser (Portsmouth, R.I.) put the Hawks on top 1-0 in the 31st minute, knocking in a pass from Haley Carignan (Scarborough, Maine) for her eighth goal of the year.

Four minutes later, the roles were reversed, with Kaiser crossing a pass through the box to Carignan. A swing and a miss by a Gordon defender on the pass led to Carignan's fourth goal of the season, putting RWU up 2-0.

Two Hawk seniors connected for the final score of the contest, with Lydon feeding the ball to Noel in the 82nd minute, notching the third score of the game for the Hawks.

Jaques needed only one save in the game for the win, while Gordon's McKenzie Dion (North Grafton, Mass.) stayed busy in net, stopping 12 shots.

Roger Williams (16-2-1, 7-1-0 CCC) ends the regular season at Western New England on Wednesday, while Gordon (15-3-0, 7-1-0 CCC) takes on Endicott on the road on Tuesday.
