Women’s Rugby wins conference championship

NEWPORT, R.I. - The Roger Williams University Women's Rugby team beat the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth 77-0 to win the Colonial Coast Conference Championship for the second straight year.

UMass-Dartmouth had no answer for a dominant RWU team that had finished the regular season undefeated. The Hawks controlled nearly all phases of the game, winning almost all of the scrums, most of the rucks, and scoring at will.

Freshman center Quanisha Hilson led all scorers with three tries. Freshman fullback Maykaela Dillingham scored twice, and nine other Hawks also scored. Vicious tackling by sophomore #8 Marie Giustino, junior prop Shavon Ennis, senior 2nd row Ashlee Tucker, and senior flanker Mikaela Feroli insured that the Corsairs never got close enough to the end zone to score.

The win puts RWU into the regional championship against the winner of the upstate New York region next weekend.
