Women's Rugby: Hawks Clinch Playoff Birth with Win Over Norwich on Senior Day

BRISTOL, R.I.  — The Roger Williams University women's rugby team rallied from an early deficit to defeat Norwich University, 29–22, on Senior Day Saturday, clinching the Rugby Northeast Conference championship and completing an undefeated regular season.

The Hawks celebrated 13 seniors before kickoff in their final conference matchup of the year. Norwich struck quickly with three tries in the opening six minutes, but Roger Williams settled in defensively and held the Cadets scoreless for the next 25 minutes.

Junior Kaya Haddad (Lee, Mass.) put the Hawks on the board with a try near the 35-minute mark, followed by a second from sophomore Maggie Kunish (Amherst, N.H.) to close the half. RWU trailed 22–10 at the break but carried momentum into the second half.

Anchored by strong defensive efforts from Isabella Murphy-Rodrigues (Stoughton, Mass.), Shannon Appelle (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.), and Danielle Vogt (Warwick, N.Y.), the Hawks tightened their formation and forced turnovers that fueled their comeback. Senior flyhalf Jaden Logie (Storrs, Conn.) led the charge offensively, scoring two tries and converting both for 14 points to secure the victory.

The win improved Roger Williams to 5-0 overall, earning the Hawks the Rugby Northeast title and a spot in the regional playoffs on Nov. 15–16 in Canton, Mass.
