Men's Lacrosse soar past Nichols

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Men's Lacrosse utilized a fast start to in route to a 16-7 victory over the Bison of Nichols College in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) opener.  The win improves the Hawks record to 3-4 on the season and 1-0 in the CCC while the Bison drop to 2-5 overall and 0-1 in the CCC. 

The Hawks found their offensive rhythm quickly to score the first four goals of the contest in just over four minutes.  Dan Arket (Poughquag, N.Y.) was first to strike on an assist from Will Siefert (Duxbury, Mass.).  Drew Beck (South Salem, N.Y.) netted the second goal on a pass from Jon Nessa (Concord, Mass.).  Nessa added his first goal of the day on an assist from Caleb Kenney (Portland, Maine).  Nessa stayed active and tallied his third point with an assist to Kirby Sundquist (Concord, Mass.).

Nichols's Macaulay Gillis (Northborough, Mass.) put the Bison on the board on an assist from Brian Girard.  The Hawks Siefert traded two goals with the Bison's Chris Litchfield (Burlington, Mass.) and Michael Bane (North Grafton, Mass.) to end the first period 6-3 in favor of the Hawks.

Scoring slowed in the second quart with each team marking one goal.  Sean Lannon (Swampscott, Mass.) scored on a pass from Siefert for the Hawks and Litchfield netted his second for Nichols to bring the halftime score to 7-4.

The third quarter saw the Hawks turn up the pressure outscoring the Bison 5-1 in the period.  Siefert and Tim Kelly (Ridgefield, Conn.) each scored twice and John Ricciardi (Duxbury, Mass.) chipped in his first of the day.  Nichols only score of the period gave Litchfield his third of the afternoon and put the score at 12-5.

Siefert continued his offensive onslaught with two more goals to open the final period for his fifth and sixth goal of the afternoon.  Gillis put another shot on net for his second mark of the day.  Cameron Signorelli (Albany, N.Y.), Kenney, and Michael Kemmy chipped in goals for the Hawks before Bane of the Bison ended the day scoring to bring the total to 17-7.

The Bison held a slight edge in ground balls but the Hawks had the advantage in shots and saves. The Hawks biggest statistical advantage came in faceoff taking 24 of the 28 in the contest. 

The Bison's Seth Drouin (Madison, Conn.) stopped 10 shot in the loss and Luke Aubrey (Norwalk, Conn.) tallied 12 saves in the victory.

The Bison will travel to Wentworth Saturday, March 30th to take on the Leopards in Commonwealth Coast Conference action at 2:00 p.m.

The Hawks hit the road to take on the University of New England Noreasterner's in another Commonwealth Coast Conference game in Biddeford, Maine on March 30th at 3:00 p.m.
