Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Men's Lacrosse got off to a quick start to soar past the Fighting Scots of Gordon College 16-5. The Hawks improve to 7-6 overall and 5-2 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) while the Fighting Scots drop to 2-12 overall and 1-6 in the CCC.
RWU outscored Gordon 4 to 1 in the first period of play to build a comfortable lead. Jon Nessa (Concord, Mass.) was first to hit at the 11:42 mark. Just under five minutes later Nessa would assist Drew Beck (South Salem, N.Y.) for his first score of the game. At 5:34 Cameron Signorelli (Albany, N.Y.) spotted an open Caleb Kenney who finished at 4:20. Signorelli then scored on a pass from Todd Carson (Pennington, N.J.) at 4:20 to put the Hawks up 4-0. Gordon's Sam Spellman (Lewes, Del.) connected with Jordan Heckelmann (Colorado Springs, Colo.) who put the Fighting Scots on the board for the last score of the period to make it a 4-1 game.
Gordon opened the second quarter netting the first two goals before the Hawks went on a three goal run of their own. Spellman gave Gordon their second score at 12:28 and Jeremy Nelson (West Chester, Pa.) fed Roger Evans (Oxford, Pa.) two minute later for another score that brought the game to 4-3. The Hawks answered with three goals to close out the half with the first of the run coming from Nessa on a pass from Kirby Sundquist at 2:14. Will Siefert (Duxbury, Mass.) would get his first of the game at 0:58 and Carson would find an open Tim Kelly (Ridgefield, Conn.) to beat the halftime buzzer 7-3.
The Hawks opened the second half with three more unanswered goals that put the game out of reach. Ian Powers (Shrewsbury, Mass.) took matter into his own hands at 13:18 and 8:56 to push the lead to 9-3 and Nessa added his third of the day at thirty seconds later. Spellman produced his second goal receive a pass from Dominic Dantona (Syosset, N.Y.) at 8:16 for Gordon fourth score of the day.
The Hawks would put five more in the net before Gordon would answer for their last score. Signorelli would score two more times, Power would add three to give him a game high five goals. Jake Martin (Watertown, Conn.) of Gordon and Michael Kemmy (Bristol, R.I.) of RWU would trade goals for their respective teams to bring the total to 16-5.
Houston Zemanski (Annapolis, Md.) stopped 6 shots on goal in the loss while Luke Aubrey (Norwalk, Conn.) saved 8 balls in the win.
Gordon returns to action on April 24th to take on Nichols in Dudley, Mass. at 6:30p.m. next Wednesday.
The Hawks remain at home for the next their final regular season competition on Saturday, April 20th at 1:00 p.m. to take on Wentworth.
