Women’s Volleyball splits on second day at UMass-Boston Invite

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BOSTON, Mass. – The Roger Williams University Women's Volleyball team had its win streak snapped at 14 straight in a day two split at the University of Massachusetts-Boston Invitational. The Hawks defeated UMass-Boston 3-0 in the opener before falling 0-3 to Trine University.

Roger Williams began the day with a 25-14, 25-19, 25-14 victory over UMass-Boston. The win for the Hawks against UMass-Boston avenged a pair of losses to the Beacons last season. The Beacons spoiled the Hawks' Senior Day last year with a 3-1 win, then ended the team's season with another 3-1 win in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

Elizabeth Flaherty (Sloatsburg, N.Y.) led the way with 11 kills for the Hawks to go along with seven digs. Kristen Boyer (Ephrata, Pa.) added seven kills and ten digs, while Maria Batas (Merrick, N.Y.) led the Hawks with 20 digs. Nicole Weber (Poulsbo, Wash.) finished with a season-high 36 assists.

In the second match of the day, Trine came away with a 25-16, 25-18, 25-19 victory over the Hawks. The match marked the first-ever meeting between the two teams.

Boyer nearly finished with a double-double for RWU, finishing the match with ten kills and nine digs. Flaherty went for seven kills and 15 digs while Batas had a team-high 24 digs. Josalyn Benson (Phoenix, Ariz.) had 18 assists for the Hawks while Weber added 11.
