Women’s Soccer blanks Eastern Nazarene

Box Score QUINCY, Mass. - The Roger Williams University Women's Soccer spoiled Homecoming weekend for Eastern Nazarene College with a 4-0 win Saturday afternoon at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

The Lions dip to 6-9-0 on the year and 3-3-0 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference with the loss. The Hawks improve to 11-2-3 overall and remain atop the league standings with a 4-0-2 mark.

Roger Williams struck first to grab a 1-0 edge in the 24th minute. Jessica Valenti (North Reading, Mass.) snuck a shot just inside the left post off of an assist from Mariah Kaiser (Portsmouth, R.I.) for her fifth goal of the season.

The Hawks doubled their advantage to 2-0 in the waning moments of the first half. Haley Carignan (Scarborough, Maine) slid a pass across the six-yard box to an unmarked Kasey Provost (Peabody, Mass.) for her first goal.

The home team trailed by a score at halftime despite outshooting the visitors 7-5.

Roger Williams tacked on a goal in the 53rd minute to widen the margin to 3-0. Kristen Tetreault (Tolland, Conn.) poked in a loose ball inside the six-yard box after the Lions' goalkeeper bobbled a cross off the foot of Kaiser.

The Hawks added a tally in the 75th minute on Carignan's fifth goal of the fall after Jenna Hart slotted a through-ball to spring Carignan on a breakaway.

Eastern Nazarene finished with 15 shots and seven attempts on frame on the day. Roger Williams produced 10 shots with eight being on target in the contest.

Jules Speno (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) paced the Lions with five shots on the afternoon, including two on goal. Katherine Lawrence (Marlborough, Conn.) recorded four shots in the game and fired two on target.

Junior Kristen Farley (Westminster, Mass.) stopped four shots between the pipes for the Lions. Sydney Martin (Scarborough, Maine) and Alexis Wright (Bennington, Vt.) combined to post a clean sheet in goal for the Hawks.

Looking ahead, Eastern Nazarene will visit Gordon October 22 for a midweek Commonwealth Coast Conference bout.
