BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Basketball team earned its most lopsided win of the season with a 91-37 victory over Eastern Nazarene College Tuesday evening.
In the process, RWU senior guard/forward Kaitlyn Bovee (Berlin, Conn.) set a new school record for career three pointers, breaking the previous record of 165 held by Kristin Gaynor '04.
RWU led wire-to-wire, beginning with a layup by Bovee to open the game. Her basket was part of a 6-0 run to begin the contest. Bovee's milestone three-pointer came at the 13:18 mark, a shot from the top of the key that put the Hawks up 18-6.
Strong Hawk defense and poor shooting kept the Lions from mounting much of an effort in the first half. Eastern Nazarene shot only 6-of-30 (.200) in the half while committing 12 turnover in the half. Despite grabbing nine offensive rebounds and going 10-of-13 from the free throw line in the first half, the Lions still found themselves trailing by 29 (22-51).
Things would get worse for ENC in the second half, as the Lions shot a paltry 15.4 percent from the field in the half, going 4-for-26. Eastern Nazarene had only scored seven points over the first 16 minutes of the second period before finishing with eight more points in the final 4:30.
Ten players scored for Roger Williams in the contest, including Bovee's game-high 24 with eight rebounds. Alyssa Otis (Torrington, Conn.) notched her first career double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds, while Rachel Battista (Johnston, R.I.) scored a career-high 12 points. Ari Renwick (Westwood, Mass.) also scored 12 with four assists and five rebounds.
Christina Saint-Pierre (Lantana, Fla.) led the Lions with nine points along with four rebounds. Lucy Santos (Vallejo, Calif.) added eight points and seven rebounds, while Nicole Greer (Fairfield, Calif.) scored six.
Roger Williams (16-4, 11-2 CCC) heads to Endicott on Saturday, while Eastern Nazarene (5-14, 1-11 CCC) goes to Nichols on Thursday.
