Women’s Basketball notches largest win of the season over Eastern Nazarene

Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. – Ten players registered points for the Roger Williams University Women's Basketball team in the Hawks' 86-46 victory over Eastern Nazarene College in Commonwealth Coast Conference action Tuesday evening.

Roger Williams (6-5, 3-1 CCC) earns its third straight victory, while Eastern Nazarene (2-8, 1-3 CCC) drops its first CCC game since December 6.

The Hawks had their best offensive game of the season, setting season highs in a number of categories including points, field goal percentage (.579/33-for-57), three-point percentage (.636/7-for-11), and assists (21).

Eastern Nazarene hung with the Hawks early on. After Mariah Nicholas (Acushnet, Mass.) opened the game with a layup, Nicole Greer (Odenton, Md.) tied the game with a layup and later gave the Lions the 5-4 lead on the next possession.

Nicholas gave the Hawks the lead back with a basket of her own. Eastern Nazarene never led the rest of the way, but remained within eight points for most of the rest of the period, pulling back as close as three (18-21) with 10:01 left in the first half.

However, the Hawks rolled off a 17-0 run over the next four minutes to build a sizeable lead over the Lions. RWU would ultimately go into the break leading 46-24. The 22-point lead proved to be too much for Eastern Nazarene to overcome, as the Lions never came closer than 17 over the rest of the game.

Rachel Battista (Johnston, R.I.) set a new career-high with 18 points including going 4-for-5 from three-point range. Angelica Ariola (Prospect, Conn.) finished with 15 points and six assists, while Alyssa Otis (Torrington, Conn.) had a solid game off the bench, scoring 11 with seven rebounds.

Greer led the Lions with 12 points to go along with four rebounds and four steals. Elia Salazar scored eight points with four boards. Jordan Grays (Elk Grove, Calif.) added six points, four rebounds, and three assists.

On Thursday, Roger Williams heads to Endicott College while Eastern Nazarene hosts Wentworth Institute of Technology.
