Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. - The Roger Williams University Women's Soccer team came out victorious over non-conference rival UMass-Dartmouth, coming away with a convincing 4-0 win against the Corsairs.
This first big play of the game unfolded in the 9th minute of the first half when Roger Williams'
Samantha Woznicki (Bristol, Conn.) made a pass to the streaking
Raleigh LeMiere-Barnes (Los Angeles, Calif.) as she quickly advanced down the right hand side. Le-Miere-Barnes got the ball but sent the shot went far left missing the corner of the goal.
A break-away almost arose in the 27th minute for the Hawks as senior
Mariah Kaiser (Portsmouth, R.I.) made an attempt to pass up the ball up the field to a rushing LeMiere-Barnes, but the play was called offsides.
Later,
Jessica Valenti (North Reading, Mass.) clinched the first goal of the game for the Hawks in the 35
th minute as she held off the defender, turned, and scored from 30 yards out with a strong kick.
Valenti added to the Hawks lead in the 42nd minute with a perfect pass from teammate Kaiser and a shot to the upper right hand side of the goal. Valenti was the only player to score the first half, giving Roger Williams the lead going into the second.
In the second half, Valenti notched her first hat trick of the year with yet another goal in the 59th minute of the game with a shot straight up the middle to further the Hawks lead.
Following Valenti's lead, teammate Kaiser scored the fourth goal of the game for the Hawks less than a minute later, unassisted from the right side line outside the 18.
UMass-Dartmouth's had some late opportunities but could not convert. The best chance came from Sarah Pacheco (Somerset, Mass.), who had a chance to score in the 71
st minute, but her high shot went straight into the hands of
Sydney Martin (Scarborough, Maine).
Martin and Corsair goalie Madison Boucher (Southampton, Mass.) both made two saves during the course of the game .
Both teams will play on their home fields this coming Saturday, October 17th. Roger Williams will take on Curry College at 1 pm, while UMass-Dartmouth takes on Keene State at 4 pm.
