Box Score DANBURY, Conn. - Senior guard
Rachel Battista (Johnston, R.I.) scored 22 points in the championship game and was named Hat City Tournament Most Valuable Player as she lifted the Roger Williams University Women's Basketball team to a 89-67 victory over Western Connecticut State University at Feldman Arena on Saturday afternoon.
Battista finished with a game-high 22 points, along with All-Tournament honoree
Angelica Ariola (Prospect, Conn.). Battista also had three rebounds, two assists and four steals for the winners. Ariola chipped in four boards and three assists for the Hawks.
Western's Alyssa Eannotti (Shelton, Conn.) and Purchase College's Elizabeth Osowiecki (Franklin Square, N.Y.) and Elms College's Emily Burr (East Hartford, Conn.) were also named to the All-Tournament Team.
Eannotti finished with 11 points, four rebounds, one assist, two blocks and a steal for the Colonials.
Emily Dobson (Westerly, R.I.) led Western with 15 points but was summoned to the bench several times with foul trouble.
RWU, now 2-2, led from the start and built a 22-point lead, 57-35, following a layup by
Katie Lowerre (Sharon, Mass.) with 4:53 left in the third quarter.
Western, 2-1 on the season, drew within seven points, 65-58 after a fast-break lay in by freshman Kayla Croswell (Norwalk, Conn.) with 7:24 left in the game.
The Hawks capped off an 18-0 run with a layup by
Bridget Quilty (Duxbury, Mass.) to squash any chance of a Colonials' comeback.
Western Connecticut travels to Regis College for a 7 pm tip-off on Tuesday, November 24 before a seven-day break for Thanksgiving.
