Softball picks up wins over Mount Ida and Penn St -Behrend

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CLERMONT, FLA. - The Roger Williams University Softball picked up two wins on their third day of action in Clermont, Fla.  An 11-1 win in the early contest versus Penn State-Behrend propelled the Hawks to 7-0 shutout over Mount Ida in their second match up. The Hawks improve to 2-4 on the season while the PSU-B Lions and Mount Ida Mustangs each drop to 0-5 on the season.

Ten runs in the first three innings allowed the Hawks to put the Lion away early.  A two-run double by Mikaela Grosso (West Warwick, R.I.), an RBI single by Chelsea Boulrisse (Bourne, Mass.), and a two-run double by Delaney Burns (Hudson, N.H.) during the second inning fueled RWU Hawks' offense early.  Boulrisse went a perfect 3-3 at the plate to lead the Hawks offense.  Mary Adametz (Higganum, Conn.) got the win for RWU Hawks. She allowed one run over three innings striking out one and surrendering four hits. Natalie Brock took the loss for Penn State-Behrend. She lasted just two innings, walked one, struck out none, and allowed four runs.  The Hawks tacked on another five runs in the third. After a quick strike from Penn State-Behrend, RWU Hawks responded with one run in the fourth. RWU Hawks scored on an RBI single by Taylor Messier (Cranston, R.I.).

In the second contest, Meghan Maliga (Suffield, Conn.) threw a complete game shutout to carry the Hawks to a 7-0 victory giving up only four hits on her way to ringing up eight strikeouts. Kaitlyn Muhlenforth took the loss for Mount Ida walking seven and striking out two. The Hawks drew first blood as Taylor Messier (Cranston, R.I.) reached first after being hit by a pitch. She then stole second and was advance by Boulrisse on a grounder to third before tagging up on Haley Ledbetter (Westerly, R.I.) sacrifice fly. The Hawks stretched their lead to two runs in the second when Meredith Moise (N. Reading, Mass.) started the rall with a single to left field.  Valerie Moran (Syosset, N.Y) advanced Moise to second on a groundball to third and Angela Pasquariello (N. Smithfield, R.I.) picked her up with a double to center.  In the third, Alicia McCauley (N. Reading, Mass.) reached on a walk and moved into scoring position on stealing second base. Boulrisse sigled to left field putting runners on the corners. With Leadbetter at the plate, Boulrisse stole second and advanced to third on a ground ball to the pitcher that scored McCauley.  The Hawks add two more runs in fifth inning and sixth innings to cap off the contest.

The Hawks return to action on Wednesday, March 11 to take on Juniata at 9am and St. Mary's (IN) at 11am.
