Men’s Lacrosse gets late goal to earn win over Farmingdale State

Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Men's Lacrosse team utilized a late goal to pull away from Farmingdale State College Tuesday afternoon, coming away with a 5-4 victory.

Philip Schaefer (Holbrook, N.Y.) stepped up first for the Rams three minutes into the game. He would pick up a loose ground ball on the right side of the goal and made his way into the middle for his seventh goal of the season. Then with three minutes remaining in the first quarter, Conor Pittard (Setauket, N.Y.) took a pass from Michael Cegielski (Somers, N.Y.) to add to the Ram lead.

Roger Williams answered back with two goals in the final two minutes of the quarter to tie the game. Mike Hanna (Somers, Conn.) notched a man-up goal for RWU off of a Max Cammarota (Redding, Conn.) pass, followed by a Caleb Kenney (Portland, Maine) score from a John Lisitano (Scituate, Mass.) pass.

In the second quarter, Will Siefert (Duxbury, Mass.) was able to find the back of the net to give the Hawks the lead. At the 12:18 mark, Tim Kelly (Ridgefield, Conn.) found Siefert cutting towards the goal, and Siefert converted for a 3-2 Hawk advantage. That would turn out to be the sole goal scored in the period between both teams, as RWU went into halftime with a one-goal advantage.

Patrick Cowcer (East Northport, N.Y.) came through for the Rams halfway through the third quarter, scoring his first goal of the season to tie the game at three apiece. A minute later, Siefert and Kelly connected again to put RWU back on top by one, but Cegielski knotted the game back up at four with 4:18 remaining in the quarter.

After long scoreless stretch in the fourth quarter, the game appeared to be headed to overtime before a Ram penalty gave the Hawks a man-up opportunity with just over three minutes left to play. Siefert emerged with the key play, scoring his third goal of the game to help push the Hawks towards victory.

Connor Carroll (Madison, Conn.), making his first start of the season, earned his first win of 2015, making five saves for Roger Williams. Thomas Fallon (Kings Park, N.Y.) picked up 13 saves for Farmingdale State in the loss.

On Saturday, Roger Williams (3-3) will head to UMass-Dartmouth, while Farmingdale State (3-2) hosts Eastern Connecticut State.
