Men’s Lacrosse defeats Trinity for first time in program history

Box Score HARTFORD, Conn. – Junior attackman Will Siefert (Duxbury, Mass.) scored five times and assisted on a sixth tally to lead the visiting Roger Williams University Men's Lacrosse team to a 16-10 win over the Trinity College Bantams this afternoon on Jessee/Miller Field.

Trinity drops to 2-6 with its second loss in a row, while the Hawks improve to 5-3 with their third victory in a row. In addition, this marks the first-ever win for the Hawks over Trinity. RWU had been 0-7 against the Bantams entering today's game.

Roger Williams opened up a 5-0 lead after one quarter, as Siefert and junior midfielder Nick Gagnon (Milton, Mass.) both scored once and assisted once during the frame, but Trinity got two back early in the second stanza on goals by senior co-captains James O'Connell (Middleton, Mass.) and Matt Hauck (Ridgewood, N.J.).  Siefert rattled off the only three goals in the final 10 minutes of the first half, however, giving the Hawks an 8-2 lead at the break.

Trinity junior Michael McQuiston (Greenwich, Conn.) opened the second half with an unassisted goal 29 seconds into the third quarter and added another at the 10-minute mark after two Hawk markers to make the score, 10-4 in the visitors' favor.  Siefert and Bantam junior Ryan DeSimone (St. James, N.Y.) traded goals before Hawk freshman middie Ed Hill (Somers, Conn.) scored with two seconds left on the clock for a 12-5 Roger Williams lead heading into the final period.  McQuiston completed his hat trick 18 seconds into the fourth quarter, but three straight goals by the Hawks put Trinity in its biggest hole of the game at 15-6 with 11:06 on the clock.  The Bantams outscored the Hawks, 4-1, over the final 10:31 of the game, as DeSimone scored twice and assisted on another goal down the stretch.

Trinity finished with 42-to-38 shooting edge but the Hawks scooped 32 ground balls to 23 for the Bantams and won the faceoff 17 of 29 times.  DeSimone paced the Bantam offense with three goals and two assists, while McQuiston added three goals and one assist.  Rookie J.P. Masaryk (Stratford, Conn.) was 12-for-23 on his face-off chances and picked up a game-high seven ground balls, while sophomore Henry Pierandri (Ridgefield, Conn.) led the Trinity defense with three caused turnovers, and three Bantam goalies had nine combined saves.

Gagnon joined Siefert as a six-point scorer, notching two goals and a game-high four assists, while junior Dan Arket (Poughquag, N.Y.) was 15-for-25 on faceoffs with five ground balls for the Hawks.  Roger Williams senior tri-captain Patrick Holland (Wilton, Conn.) had two caused turnovers and five ground balls, and classmate Luke Aubrey (Norwalk, Conn.) made 10 of his team's 11 saves.
