Softball falls to Mount Union and Elizabethtown

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 CLERMONT, Fla. – The Roger Williams University Softball team fell in a pair of games Saturday, losing a hard-fought 10-11, 10-inning contest to Mount Union, and falling 2-11 to Elizabethtown.

Against Mount Union, the Hawks grabbed a 2-0 lead in the top of the first in RBI hits from Delaney Burns (Hudson, N.H.) and Veronica Alicea (Trumbull, Conn.). Taylor Messier (Cranston, R.I.) would later add another run in the third for Roger Williams.

Mount Union would come back to tie the game in the bottom of the fourth, scoring three times in the inning. RWU took the lead back in the sixth with a two-RBI single from Meredith Moise (North Reading, Mass.). However, Mount Union plated five runs in the bottom of the inning to go on top by three.

Roger Williams came back in the top of the seventh with three runs, including the game-tying two-RBI double by Sigita Ivaska (Gibsonia, Pa.) to send the game to extra innings. Both teams traded runs in the eighth and ninth innings, but it would be Mount Union who came up with the go-ahead run in the tenth to cap off the victory.

Mary Adametz (Higganum, Conn.) took the loss for RWU, giving up eight runs (five earned) in 5.2 innings. Ivaska finished 3-for-6 with three RBI, while Alicea was 2-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI.

Elizabethtown added two more runs in the fourth inning, to lead by five. Ivaska picked up an RBI in the bottom of the fifth to bring RWU within four. However, the Blue Jays got the run back in the following inning, then blew open the game with four runs in the top of the seventh.

Tori Milano (Eastchester, N.Y.) was tagged with eight runs in six innings in the loss, but was only charged with one earned run. Ivaska finished 1-for-4 with a run and an RBI, while Alicia McCauley (North Reading, Mass.) went 1-for-3.
