Softball splits doubleheader with Salve Regina

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 BRISTOL, R.I. - The Roger Williams University Softball Team splits doubleheader with Salve Regina.  TheHawks took the opener 4-3 while the Seahawks picked up the late game 3-1.  The Hawks sit at 6-7 overall and 2-2 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference and the Seahawks are 5-9 and 3-1 in the CCC.  
Game 1 - (RWU 4 - SRU 3)

The Hawks picked up their first run in the top of the third inning. Meghan Maliga (Suffield, Conn.) reached on a throwing error and Meredith Moise (Reading, Mass.) pounded a double to center that scored Maliga.

The Seahawks answered in the bottom half of the inning with two runs.  Skye Hart (Hope Valley, R.I.) blooped one into short right and was advanced to second on a scrifice bunt by Francesca Galeazzi (Lynn, Mass.).   Galeazzi and Hart advaced to second and third on a passed ball before Genevieve Benoit (Swampscott, Mass.)picked them up with a single through the rightside of the diamond that put the game at 2-1 in faor of the Seashawks.  

The Hawks rallied in the top of the sixth that began with a Moise single. Taylor Messier (Cranston, R.I.) advanced Moise too scoring position with a sacrifice bunt.  Cayla McCarthy singled to right field in pinch hitting role to score Moise and advanced to second on an errant throw. 
Mikaela Grosso (West Warwick, R.I.) gave the Seahawks deja vu single to right to score McCarthy and arriving at second on the through to the plate.  CCC Rookie of the Week Haley Ledbetter (Westerly, R.I.) drove one deep to score Grosso and arrive safely at third. The Ledbetter triple gave the Hawks the 4-2 lead in the contest.

The Hawks allowed one run in the sixth but closed out the contest 4-3.

 
Game 2 - (RWU 1 - SRU 3)
 
The Seahawks picked up one run in the second and two more in the fifth to take a three run lead.  The Hawks only run would come in the top of the sixth when Messier opened the inning with a double and Grosso brought her home with a single.

The Hawks are schedule to take on Endicott in a doubleheader on Friday, April 2nd at 2:00 p.m. and Salve Regina will make up their postponed doubleheader from March 21st with Gordon at the same time in Newport, R.I.
