Softball Downs Endicott 11-5

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Softball team concludes the regular season with a win over Endicott 11-5.   The Hawks improve to 8-8 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference and 12-15 overall while the Gulls slide to 11-5 in the CCC and 15-17 on the year. The game was the second half of a doubleheader that was rained out on April 3 and began in the top of the second inning with Hawks leading 1-0.
 
Endicott erased RWU's lead in their first at bat. Hannah Graney (Acton, Mass.) singled up the middle and stole second to get in scoring position.  Stephanie Cameron (Milford, Conn.) singled up the middle to score Graney and put the game at 1-1.
 
In the top of the third Endicott took the lead with a four run at bat.  Julia McNeill (Hauppauge, N.Y.) walked and stole second to start the rally. Kayla Sheldon (Burlington, Mass.) grounded out to the pitcher advancing McNeill to third.  Emily Hoffman (Malden, Mass.) tripled to right center to score McNeill and give the Gulls a 2-1 lead. Graney doubled to right field scoring Hoffman to push the score to 3-1.  Casie Beauchemin (Lincoln, R.I.) singled through the left side to score Graney and put the game at 4-1. Chrissy Gikas (Danvers, Mass.) bunted for a single to score Beauchemin and put the Hawks down by four.
 
The Hawks cut the lead to two runs in the bottom of the third.  Taylor Messier (Cranston, R.I.) opened with a lead off single to center field and stole second to get in scoring position.  Chelsea Boulrisse (Bourne, Mass.) reached on an error that advanced Messier to third. Haley Ledbetter (Westerly, R.I.) reached on a fielder's choice that forced Boulrisse out at second and scored Messier and cut the lead to 5-2.  Meredith Moise (N. Reading, Mass.) tripled to right field to score Ledbetter and put the contest at 5-3.
 
The Hawks would even the score at five a piece in the bottom of the fourth. Veronica Alicea (Trumbull, Conn.) walked and Messier homered.
 
RWU produced two more runs in the bottom of the fifth to retake the lead.  Ledbetter singled to the left side.  Delaney Burns (Hudson, N.H.) doubled to right field and Ledbetter advanced to third.  Alana Peoples (Scarborough, Maine) drove a sacrifice fly to right that scored Ledbetter and Angela Pasquariello (N. Smithfield, R.I.) advanced to third pinch running for Burns. Meghan Maliga (Suffield, Conn.) singled to left field to score Pasquariello and give the Hawks a 7-5 lead.
 
The Hawks put the game out of reach in the bottom of the sixth with four more runs that put the game at its final score of 11-5.
 
Maliga earned up the win going five innings for the Hawks and Meg Donegan (Atkinson, N.H.) was saddled with the loss for the Gulls. 
 
Both the Hawks and Gull await the CCC Championship Tournament draw to determine their next games.
