Softball drops CCC Tournament game to Curry

Box Score SPRINGFIELD, MASS. – The Roger Williams University Softball team dropped their first Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament game to Curry 3-1. The loss gives the Hawks their first loss in the Commonwealth Coast Conference double elimination Championship Tournament. 

Meghan Maliga (Suffield, Conn.) took the circle for the Hawks and Taylor Ahearn (Salem, Mass.) started at pitcher for the Colonels

RWU struck in the top of the first inning.  Haley Ledbetter (Westerly, R.I.) doubled to left field with two outs in the top of the first.  Burns reached on a dropped fly that Ledbetter scored to put the Hawks up 1-0.

In the bottom of the third Curry squared the game at 1-1.  Allie Carver (Marlborough, Mass.) led off with a walk. Carver advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by April Adams (Burlington, Mass.). Carver advanced to third on an Amy (Norfolk, Mass. to the left side.  Marissa Bruno (Milford, Conn.) singled to the left side to bring Carver home and even the score.

Curry took a one run the lead in the bottom of the fifth.  Adams singled through the left side and stole second before Nolan singled to advance her to third.  Adams scored on a failed pickoff attempt at second that gave Curry their first lead.

Curry added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth that put the game at it final score of 3-1. 

The Hawks will take on Salve Regina at 2:30pm in Springfield, Mass. at Western New England University to keep their CCC Championship Tournament hopes alive. Curry advanced in the bracket to take on #1 seed Western New England
