Box Score SPRINGFIELD, MASS. – The Roger Williams Softball Team edged Salve Regina in extra innings 4-3 at the Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship Tournament. The loss ends the Seahawks season with an overall record of 20-20 while the Hawks improve to 15-16.
Meghan Maliga (Suffield, Conn.) got the start for the Hawks and Kelsey Boarman (North Dighton, Mass) stepped into the circle for the Seahawks.
RWU scored two run in the top of the fourth to take the early lead. Chelsea Boulrisse (Bourne, Mass.) led off with a single through the left side. Haley Ledbetter (Westerly, R.I.) ran out a but that advanced Boulrisse to second. Delaney Burns (Hudson, N.H.) grounded into double play that forced Boulrisse at third but advanced Ledbetter to second. Meredith Moise (N. Reading, Mass.) cranked a two out triple that scored Ledbetter for the first run of the contest. Veronica Alicea (Trumbull, Conn.) followed with a single to the left side that scored Moise and put the Hawks up 2-0.
Salve got one back in the bottom of the inning. Lexi Soucie (North Easton, Mass.) doubled to left center. Lindsay DelGrego (Wallingford, Conn.) sacrificed to advance Soucie to third. Lauren Fountain (Cheshire, Conn.) singled to right field to score Soucie and put the game at 2-1.
The Seahawks mount another rally in the bottom of the fifth to square things at two a piece. Francesca Galeazzi (Lynn, Mass.) worked a walk to lead off. Nikki Bukovsky (Westport, Conn.) advanced Galeazzi with a ground out to third. Melissa Figueiredo (East Bridgewater, Mass.) moved Galeazzi to third with a ground out to second base. Genevieve Benoit (Swampscott, Mass.) reached on an error that brought in Galeazzi to tie the game 2-2.
The game remained deadlocked until the top of the tenth when Hawks rallied for two runs. Moise got the momentum started with a single to right. Alicea grounded out to the pitcher to advance Moise to second. Maliga helped her cause with a single to left field that scored Moise and then advanced to second on the throw to the plate. Alana Peoples (Scarborough, Maine) singled to right to give the Hawks the 4-2 advantage.
The Seahawks added a run in the bottom half of the inning but stranded two runners to end the game.
Maliga picked up the win going the entire 10 innings while Nicole Parry (Quincy, Mass.) was saddled with the loss going six inning in relief of Boarman.
