Box Score BOSTON, Mass. – UMass-Boston picked-up their fourth straight win as they defeated the Roger Williams University Women's Volleyball team by the final of 3-0 Tuesday evening in the Clark Athletic Center Gymnasium.
Led by setters Christina Elliott (Camas, Wash.) and Pepper Baker (Tallahassee, Fla.), UMass won all three sets by the finals of 25-15 thanks to strong play of both Elliott and Baker. The duo each recorded 16 assists, with Elliott also finishing with a pair of aces.
Julia Murphy (Canton, Mass.) pounded 10 kills to lead all players on Tuesday night, and hit a strong .421. Eileen Shi (San Francisco, Calif.) collected a .429 hitting percentage, as the sophomore threw down seven kills on 14 attempts. Melanie Fyda (Park Ridge, Ill.) posted eight kills, while senior Colleen Koen (Centerville, Mass.) and sophomore Rachel Maslach (Berlin Center, Ohio) finished with eight kills respectively.
In total the Beacons scored seven aces, on their way to their 17th win of the season. Elizabeth Glavan (Edina, Minn.) was consistent as usual as she put up 17 digs, and 10 service receptions. Murphy led the way at net with three solo blocks, while Koen finished second with two solo stops. Freshman Sarah Doyle (Glendale, Calif.), who earned her first conference weekly honor on Monday, threw down one solo block and also had a pair of kills.
For the Hawks, they managed just 11 kills in the match and finished with a -.118 hitting percentage.
Kristen Boyer led the team with four kills, while
Maria Batas combined for eight digs.
With her three blocks, Murphy now sits just four away from tying the program record for total blocks in a career. UMass Boston has now won six of their last nine meetings with the Hawks dating back to the 2008 season. The 3-0 win over Roger Williams marked the Beacons first since the 2010 season. As a team the Beacons hit .308 on the night, and combined for six team blocks.
