Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mass – The Roger Williams University Women's Basketball team returned from the holiday break with a 71-58 win over Framingham State University Friday evening at the Hampton Inn/West Springfield Classic.
The Hawks' Bridget Quilty (Duxbury, Mass.) paced the Hawks with a season high 22 points and 15 rebounds to go along with five assists and three blocks. Anna Walther (Northampton, Mass.) tied a career high with 18 points while setting a new career best with nine rebounds.
Stephanie Bramante (Stoneham, Mass.) chipped in with nine points and nine boards, while Mariah Nicholas (Acushnet, Mass.) finished with ten points and seven rebounds off the bench.
Quilty began the game with a layup to give the Hawks a lead they would not give up over the rest of the rest of the quarter. The Rams tied the game twice in the period, but Roger Williams would not allow them to go ahead and holding a 22-17 advantage at the end of the first quarter.
RWU would take its largest lead of the game on a Quilty layup to make it a 27-17 game with 5:49 left in the second quarter. The Rams managed to cut the deficit to three (27-30) with 2:33 to play in the half. However, the Hawks closed out the period on a 7-0 run to take a 37-27 lead into halftime.
Framingham State trailed by as many as 12 in the third quarter, but ended the period strong to remain within striking distance. The Rams held RWU scoreless over the final 3:32 of play to trim a nine-point deficit to only four (45-49) entering the fourth.
The turning point for RWU came over a three-minute stretch in the fourth, with Roger Williams turning a five-point lead into a 13-point advantage (59-46) with just under seven minutes to play. From there, Framingham State would not come closer than eight over the rest of the way as the Hawks cruised to the win.
