Box Score SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Junior guard Sarah Kaufman (Boulder, Colo.) registered 21 points and Catherine Harrison (Duxbury, Mass.) notched 14 points and eight rebounds as the Middlebury College women's basketball team won the 2016 Hampton Inn West Springfield/Naismith Classic over Roger Williams, 52-47, on Saturday evening in Blake Arena.

With the win, the Panthers improve to 8-1 on the year, while the Hawks fall to 5-4 overall. Middlebury shot 20-of-62 (32.3%) in the win, while Roger Williams was just 18-of-57 (31.6%) from the field in the setback.

Roger Williams jumped out to an early 6-3 lead following a three-pointer from Anna Walther (Northampton, Mass.) just 2:49 into the contest, but then back-to-back lay-ups from Kaufman and Harrison, and  a jumper from Colleen Caveney (Andover, Mass.) gave the Panthers a 9-6 lead with 4:35 to play in the first. After the Hawks clawed back to within one, Alex Huffman (Lynn, Mass.) drilled a three from the wing, putting Middlebury up 11-8, but a lay-up from Quilty made it 11-10, Panthers, at the end of one.

The scoring in the second quarter picked up midway through the stanza, when baskets from Quilty and Mariah Nicholas (Acushnet, Mass.) gave Roger Williams a 14-11 lead with 4:28 to play in the half. From there, the Hawks would hold onto the lead, heading to the locker room up 18-17.

Even at 29 late in the third quarter, Middlebury pulled away by two points on a lay-in from Harrison, but the Hawks would end the stanza on a 5-0 run, capped by a three pointer from Stephanie Bramante (Stoneham, Mass.) to give Roger Williams a 34-31 lead at the end of three.

In the fourth quarter, the Hawks took a 42-36 lead over Middlebury after a lay-up from Gabby Jerahian (Quincy, Mass.), but baskets from Harrison and Caveney would give the Panthers a slight 45-44 lead with 56 seconds remaining. From there, Kaufman and Betsy Knox (Bethesda, Md.) would convert their free-throws to seal the five-point win.
